Insignias digitales.
Dónde se están utilizando?
Muy buenas docentes y no docentes, hoy voy a convencerte de algo. Las insignias no son una moda, son la evolución de las sistemas de evaluación tradicionales. Menuda afirmación más atrevida verdad? lo sé, pero realmente es lo que pienso.
Las insignias digitales han surgido con el objetivo de reconocer y verificar las competencias alcanzadas, en la actualidad se han convertido en la representación digital de un logro u habilidad.
Durante los últimos años numerosas organizaciones y empresas han empezado a emitir y asignar insignias digitales a sus alumnos y empleados. Muchos MOOCs utilizan las insignias digitales para representar que se ha finalizado de un curso.
La mochila digital
El desarrollo de las insignias ha traído consigo el nacimiento de distintas plataformas. Estas mismas plataformas nos permiten exportar las insignias a lo que se denomina una «mochila digital«. Una de las pioneras fue Open Badges, aunque ahora a pasado a llamarse Badgr.
En españa, el INTEF también ha creado un portal donde podemos exportar las insignias obtenidas en diversos MOOCs, todo ello a través de Educalab Insignias.
Badgr
Badgr recoge el téstigo dejado por Open Badges. Consiste en una mochila digital pública y abierta donde podemos crear insignias para poder asignarlas desde distintas plataformas.
Una mochila digital permite llevar un control completo sobre nuestros logros obtenidos en cualquier lugar de la red. Es un lugar donde podemos organizar, mostrar y administrar todas nuestras insignias.
Insignias digitales INTEF
«El Instituto Nacional de Tecnologías Educativas y de Formación del Profesorado (INTEF) es la unidad del Ministerio de Educación y Formación Profesional responsable de la integración de las TIC y la Formación del Profesorado en las etapas educativas no universitarias».
En su web podemos encontrar información sobre:
- Cursos de formación para el profesorado, tanto presenciales como el línea(MOCCs y NOOCs)
- Recursos educativos
- Tecnología educativa
Además, también podemos crear una mochila digital similar a la de Badgr, algunas de sus características son las siguientes:
- Almacenamiento seguro mediante datos encriptados
- Gestión de insignias, permite importar y exportar insignias a otras mochilas digitales
- Perfil social, podemos compartir las insignias que hemos obtenido en redes sociales e incluso añadirlas a nuestro perfil de LinkedIn

Insignias digitales en Khan Academy
Khan Academy es la plataforma web creada por Salman Khan. En ella, se pretende que cualquier persona pueda acceder a una educación de calidad. Contiene una cantidad enorme de cursos de muchos ámbitos. Aunque se inició con cursos de matemáticas, poco a poco ha ido añadiendo otras disciplinas como biología, química, física, economía, informática y muchos otras.
Además, nos permite crear nuestra propios grupos de clase y asignar a cada grupo los cursos que queramos. Hay muchos tipos de recursos en cada curso, actividades, cuestionarios, vídeos, contenidos interactivos, etc. Además, la plataforma destaca por tener una interfaz muy cuidada y amigable.
Desde el punto de vista del profesor, nos permite llevar un seguimiento detallado del progreso del grupo. Al mismo tiempo, proporciona una manera muy eficiente de corregir las actividades. Algunas actividades se corrigen automáticamente y otras las debemos evaluar nosotros contestando a varias preguntas, vamos lo que viene a ser una rúbrica, pero simplificada.
Aunque no seamos docentes, también podemos registrarnos de forma individual y acceder a cualquiera de sus cursos como estudiantes.
Medallas en Khan Academy
Pasemos a hablar de las insignias digitales en Khan Academy. Aquí se llaman «medallas«, y tenemos a nuestra disposición una variedad increíble de ellas. Prueba de ello, es la agrupación que se hace de las mismas.
Se establecen distintos tipos de medallas según su dificultad a la hora de obtenerlas:
- Meteorito, son comunes y fáciles de ganar cuando estás comenzando.
- Luna, no son comunes y representan una buena dedicación en el aprendizaje.
- Tierra, son raras. Requieren una gran cantidad de aprendizaje.
- Sol, son épicas. Ganarlas es un verdadero reto, y requieren una dedicación impresionante.
- Agujero negro, son legendarias y desconocidas. Son los premios más raros en Khan Academy.

Insignias digitales en Moodle
Moodle es el LMS (Learning Management System) por excelencia, es una plataforma educativa libre y gratuita. Fue creado por Martin Dougiamas con el objetivo de ayudar a los educadores a crear cursos en línea de alta calidad y entornos de aprendizaje virtuales. Sus casi 20 años de vida le han permitido ir mejorando su funcionalidad versión tras versión.
Actualmente, es usada en educación a distancia, clase invertida y muchos proyectos de e-learning. Su flexibilidad es tan grande que lo utilizan desde pequeñas escuelas hasta universidades reconocidas a nivel mundial.
Moodle nos ofrece una cantidad enorme de opciones para crear nuestros cursos. Podemos compartir webs, vídeos, crear cuestionarios, glosarios, encuestas, etc. Además desde la versión 2.5 incorpora de forma nativa las insignias.
Para conceder las insignias Moodle nos ofrece muchos criterios, no obstante, podemos resumirlos en dos, concederlas de forma manual y de forma automática.
La forma manual es la más típica, seleccionamos la insignias, seleccionamos al alumno/a y se la concedemos, aunque en la medida de lo posible debemos evitar este método, cuando más podamos automatizar el proceso mejor.
La forma automática es una maravilla, podemos seleccionar distintos criterios de obtención para que tengamos que olvidarnos del proceso, esto aumenta muchísimo la productividad del docente.

Insignias digitales en Edmodo
Edmodo es una red social educativa que conecta a los docentes, estudiantes, padres y madres en un entorno cerrado y privado. Se utiliza en educación para organizar contenidos y mantener una comunicación directa y fluida con los estudiantes. Funciona de forma similar a las redes sociales tradicionales, de hecho, tiene un muro donde podemos ir viendo las actualizaciones que se están publicando en el curso. También se puede colaborar y compartir nuestra experiencia con otros docentes dentro de la plataforma.
Cabe destacar que Edmodo también utiliza insignias, sin embargo, a día de hoy, la flexibilidad a la hora de otorgarlas es mucho menor que en Moodle. Con Edmodo todas las insignias las debemos asignar de forma manual, esto puede llegar a suponer un problema en grupos muy numerosos. Sería razonable pensar que en futuras actualizaciones se permitan vincular a la finalización de actividades, e incluso otros criterios.
Por último, me gustaría destacar que Edmodo dispone de una excelente aplicación móvil tanto en Android como iOS, esto provoca que gane enteros frente a otras alternativas con apps móviles menos trabajadas.
El futuro de las insignias digitales
Como habrás notado, el uso de insignias se está generalizando. Pero para que todo esto sea efectivo se debe crear algún tipo de organismo certificador para dar validez a las insignias. Se podría incluso establecer un orden jerárquico en la creación de las mismas. Por ejemplo, nos podríamos encontrar con insignias muy codiciadas otorgadas por universidades con mucho prestigio. Al mismo tiempo tanto escuelas como institutos deberían permitir otorgar insignias que se ganen una vez y nunca se pierdan. Todo ello contribuiría a tener más información de las habilidades o competencias de una persona.
En definitiva, se debería centralizar la gestión de algún modo. Sería muy interesante que en un futuro cada alumno tuviera su propia mochila digital con todas las insignias que ha ido obteniendo a lo largo de toda su vida. Esta mochila podría ser utilizada tanto por universidades como por empresas para encontrar el perfil idóneo para un puesto de trabajo concreto. Las insignias permitirían establecer filtros para poder encontrar candidatos con habilidades específicas de forma rápida. Desde mi punto de vista, esto sería fantástico. Con los métodos actuales únicamente nos basamos en una cifra numérica para valorar a una persona.
Aplicaciones reales
Veamos un ejemplo, una alumna termina el bachillerato con un 9 de media y otra con un 7, qué conclusión podemos sacar en base a esta información? Imagina que tuvieras que elegir a una de las dos para un trabajo concreto, lo lógico sería pensar que la que tiene una nota media más alta, será la mejor preparada para el puesto. Y aquí está realmente el problema, un número es una información muy escasa.
Otro caso lo podemos ver en algunas personas muy trabajadoras e inteligentes, pueden tener un expediente increíble y unas notas altísimas, pero cuando tienen que trabajar en grupo, puede que algunas de ellas carezcan de las habilidades sociales necesarias. Esto con los métodos actuales no queda reflejado en ningún sitio. Otro ejemplo lo podemos ver con alumnado con bajo rendimiento académico pero con mucha creatividad y con una excelente capacidad en ciertas materias.
Hay que ser conscientes que esta evolución en la forma de evaluar y calificar es muy compleja. Es un proceso que necesitará mucha colaboración y mucho trabajo, pero a la larga, nos proporcionará información mucho más útil de las capacidades y habilidades de cada persona.
